Musical Theater
The Musical Theatre Program provides interdisciplinary training in the three primary areas of musical theatre performance: acting, singing, and dance. The program prepares students to become versatile performers capable of integrating these disciplines while developing strong storytelling, musicianship, movement, and performance skills.
Students study acting technique, character development, scene study, script analysis, improvisation, vocal technique, musical theatre repertoire, audition preparation, dance technique, movement, and stagecraft. Particular emphasis is placed on teaching students how to communicate character and intention through both spoken dialogue and song.
The curriculum explores the history and development of musical theatre, including classic Broadway, contemporary musical theatre, culturally diverse works, and emerging forms. Students examine influential composers, lyricists, choreographers, directors, performers, and productions.
Dance training may include jazz, ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, and musical theatre dance. Vocal instruction develops healthy singing technique, breath support, diction, resonance, interpretation, harmony, and ensemble singing.
Students regularly participate in workshops, showcases, cabarets, scene presentations, musical revues, and fully staged productions. They also learn professional rehearsal practices including preparation, punctuality, collaboration, accepting direction, maintaining performance consistency, and working respectfully within an ensemble.
Advanced students receive extensive audition preparation, including selecting appropriate songs and monologues, preparing audition cuts, learning choreography quickly, creating résumés and headshots, and developing confidence in callbacks and interviews.
