Band

Students study proper tone production, articulation, breath control, posture, intonation, rhythmic accuracy, sight-reading, scales, technical exercises, and expressive interpretation. Individual musicianship is strengthened while students learn the responsibility and discipline required to perform as members of an ensemble. 

The program may include Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Marching/Pep Band, Chamber Ensembles, and instrumental sectionals, depending on enrollment and school resources. 

Jazz education can serve as an important component of the curriculum. Students may study jazz history, blues forms, swing, improvisation, chord structures, jazz articulation, and the contributions of influential jazz composers and performers. 

Students participate in concerts, festivals, adjudications, community events, school ceremonies, musical theatre productions, and interdisciplinary performances. Advanced students may also assume leadership positions such as section leader, principal player, student conductor, or ensemble mentor. 

Students graduate with the musical discipline and technical foundation necessary to audition for collegiate music programs, conservatories, community ensembles, military ensembles, and other professional or pre-professional opportunities. 

Primary instruments may include: flute, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium/baritone, tuba, percussion, keyboard, and rhythm-section instruments where appropriate. 

Potential career pathways: professional musician, music educator, composer, arranger, conductor, music producer, recording artist, session musician, military musician, music therapist, arts administrator, and music industry professional.
